ABTR Events

The ABTR regularly organises get-togethers and seminars with the aim of providing additional information for companies within the Romanian translation market. The idea behind these events is to offer a chance to get to know one another and to discuss current problems and issues.
The dates and outcomes are shown in the summaries below:

Summary of the Round Table Meeting of December 13, 2008

Introduction

The round table meeting was held in Bucharest, at the Tulip Inn Hotel. There were 19 attendees representing 13 translation agencies.

Topics

1. ABTR Projects in progress

• "Theory and Practice of Translation" - a course organized by ABTR and the Centre for Professional Training in Culture
• IT Terminology Project

2. Future projects

• Establishment of workshops on various themes: project management, time management, SR EN 15038 standard and terminology management
• "Guide to procurement of translation and interpreting services" - a project focused on the establishment of a guide to purchasers of translation and interpreting services

3. Free discussions

• Impact of world financial crisis on translation market
• Alternative employment methods
• ABTR membership importance and benefits.

ABTR Seminar - November 17, 2007

The seminar took place at the Tulip Inn Hotel, Van Gogh Hall, in Bucharest. 40 representatives from 24 translation agencies took part.

The following are some of the items that were on the agenda:

• „Professional Improvement of the Translators”
• „Common Terminology”
• „Casa de Traduceri – 7 years of activity”
• „Quality translations. Case study”
• „Marketing Characteristics and Trends for Translation Services”

Seminar from January 27, 2007

The seminar took place at the Tulip Inn hotel in Bucharest. 19 representatives from 12 translation agencies took part.
The following are some of the items that were on the agenda:

• "ABTR - "Cine suntem noi?" ("Who are we?") - A look at the objectives, achievements and documents underlying the common practices of ABTR members (Lucian Dumitrescu, altalingua EES)
• "Ce a însemnat aderarea la ABTR?” ("What does it mean to be a member of ABTR?") - A look at what ABTR membership has done for Smart Soft and CET Central European Translations (Andrei Nădejde, Smart Soft, and Hermann Korte, CET Central European Translations).

Seminar from September 30, 2006

The seminar took place at the Tulip Inn hotel in Bucharest. 19 representatives from 11 translation agencies took part.
The following are some of the items that were on the agenda:

• "Unde trebuie să ajungem?" ("What are we trying to achieve?") – A look at what measures are needed to ensure the quality of a translation project including concrete information on workflow tools and key concepts (Lucian Dumitrescu, altalingua EES)
• "Paşii unui proiect de localizare” (“The steps involved in a localisation project”) – A look at the specifics of a localisation project in the IT domain (Andrei Nădejde, Smart Soft)
• "Market and market trends for translation services" – A look at current trends in the translation market (Hermann Korte, CET Central European Translations)
